Admissions is a numbers game. Is your school over-enrolled with a waitlist? Is it under-enrolled and making you anxious? What separates these two scenarios? Four admissions teams we work with—New Roads School, Miss Porter’s School, St. John’s College, and Oakwood School—understand that you can’t attract families by marketing the school you think people want. You can only market the school that you are. Everyone wants to know who you really are, so don’t be afraid to own your identity. Flaunt your personality. Plant a flag. Because when you do that, unapologetically, the right families will come running.
New Roads School
No one should have to choose between wellbeing and academic rigor. Not only is this a false dichotomy: one cannot actually exist without the other. The People of New Roads recognized this truth and developed a model of education that liberates each child’s full and unique set of gifts. Miss Porter’s School
How do you design a marketing campaign for a Connecticut boarding school that wants to point fearlessly forward despite tracing its history from pre-Civil War origins? How can a recruitment collateral signal a desired future for the school in which young people gain access to opportunity regardless of their race, gender, or identity? Sometimes, a simple six-panel accordion fold brochure can spell a valid answer.
St. John’s College
At the heart of St. John’s College is a liberal arts curriculum focused on many of the greatest books and most important questions in history. This is a curriculum unlike any other. Therefore why would the College publish a viewbook like all the others? Instead, DISTINC_ partnered with the admissions team at St. John’s to develop a seven-part viewbook series inspired by the seven liberal arts. It fit. And when people experienced the cumulative effect of these seven books hitting their mailboxes, they fell in love seven different ways.
Oakwood School
Oakwood School sparks passion and wants young people to become wholeheartedly immersed in their learning. DISTINC_ designed a two-cover, bi-directional admissions viewbook for the school. On one side of the publication, CHILDHOOD depicts a school where young students prepare for the future by focusing on the quality of their K-6 environment. Flip it. Open the BLOOM side to discover the 7-12 secondary experience where young people’s feelings and thoughts are accorded respect and dignity.
